Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 12, Nokia has announced the deployment of a new high-speed optical transport backbone network for MX Fiber, aimed at providing reliable, high-capacity connectivity across Southeast Mexico, particularly in areas that have historically lacked sufficient infrastructure. This network will support economic revitalization and modern services for local communities, businesses, and government projects in regions such as Chiapas, Tabasco, and Quintana Roo, with plans to extend to Campeche and Veracruz in the future.

The 1,800 km expansion of MX Fiber, powered by Nokia’s Flex-Grid DWDM technology and the 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS), will enable scalable services ranging from 10G to 200G. This capacity is essential for connecting customers to modern data centers, industrial parks, and subsea transport hubs, all critical for commerce, mobility, and digital inclusion. MX Fiber’s new network will help meet the increasing demand for faster internet, enhanced cloud access, and support for data-intensive applications in these underserved regions.

The Nokia 1830 PSS solution is designed to be efficient and cost-effective, with the ability to seamlessly upgrade to 400G and 800G without disrupting existing services. Additionally, the network is equipped with dynamic management features and real-time performance monitoring through Optical Time-Domain Reflectometry (OTDR), providing MX Fiber customers with reliable and responsive connectivity that can evolve with future demands.

Nestor Bergero, CEO of MX Fiber, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration: “We are very happy to work with Nokia to deploy a proven optical solution that delivers massive capacity and high-quality services at a lower operational cost. This solution is crucial to supporting our customers and the success of mega-projects such as the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and the Maya Train, which are designed to spur economic development in the region. We look forward to continuing to grow and evolve with Nokia.”

Javier Falcón, Director of Network Infrastructure for Latin America at Nokia, emphasized the significance of the project: “This is a major step forward for digital inclusion and economic empowerment in Southeastern Mexico. We’re honored to support MX Fiber with world-class optical technology that delivers scale, reliability, and future-ready performance.”

This new network is a critical part of Mexico’s ongoing efforts to improve digital infrastructure and empower communities in the region.
