Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 13, DNV Inspection, an independent assurance and risk management provider, has been awarded three-year contracts to provide quality assurance and control services for two pioneering carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects in the UK: Net Zero Teesside Power (NZT Power) and the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP). Both projects are located in the North East of England.

DNV’s role includes inspecting equipment and materials to ensure compliance with industry standards and providing on-site support during the transition from construction to operation. The Northern Endurance Partnership, a collaboration between BP, Equinor, and TotalEnergies, is developing infrastructure to transport CO2 from capture projects in Teesside and the Humber, known as the East Coast Cluster, to secure storage sites beneath the North Sea.

Construction of the CCS projects is set to begin this year, with initial CO2 injections potentially starting in 2027 and full operations by 2028. The projects are permitted to inject up to 4 million tons of CO2 annually, averaging a total of 100 million tons over 25 years.

NZT Power, a joint venture between BP and Equinor, aims to establish the UK’s first gas-fired power station equipped with CCS. Upon completion, the facility could generate up to 742 MW of low-carbon, flexible electricity, sufficient to meet the annual needs of over 1 million UK households.

Mariagrazia Silva, Regional Operations Manager Europe at DNV Inspection, stated: “Being selected to support both Net Zero Teesside Power and the Northern Endurance Partnership marks a significant milestone in DNV Inspection’s growth within the UK’s low-carbon energy sector. These CCS projects are critical not only for achieving the UK’s net zero targets, but also for unlocking local employment opportunities in the Teesside area and beyond.”

These initiatives support the UK’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions through innovative technology. By facilitating the safe and efficient development of CCS infrastructure, DNV Inspection contributes to sustainable energy solutions and economic growth in the region. The projects position the North East of England as a hub for low-carbon innovation, aligning with broader environmental goals while fostering job creation in Teesside and surrounding areas.
