Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 20, Eco Wave Power Global AB, a wave energy technology company, announced that its partner, I-KE International Ocean Energy Co., a subsidiary of Lian Tat Company, has won a land use tender from the Suao Port Company in Taiwan. This marks the first allocation of a commercial port area in Taiwan for wave energy testing, with the project set to deploy a 100-kilowatt onshore wave energy conversion unit.
The Keelung Branch of Taiwan Port Corporation designated 6.75 hectares on the southern outer breakwater of Suao Port, divided into three 2.25-hectare zones. I-KE secured exclusive rights to Zone C through a competitive process finalized in July 2025. The 100kW unit, acquired under a turnkey agreement signed in late 2024, will be installed in Zone C, which faces the Pacific Ocean, offering stable wave conditions for energy generation.
The pilot aligns with Taiwan’s renewable energy strategy, aiming to demonstrate the viability of wave energy. The project is designed to scale to 20 megawatts in the medium term, with potential for up to 400 megawatts along Taiwan’s coastline. “This tender award represents a groundbreaking moment for Eco Wave Power and for Taiwan,” said Inna Braverman, Founder and CEO of Eco Wave Power. “It is not only our entry point into the Asian market but also the first time that a Taiwanese port has been allocated for wave energy testing. With I-KE and Lian Tat as strong local partners, we are confident that this project will demonstrate the commercial viability of wave energy and pave the way for large-scale deployment.”
“Being selected through a competitive process by Taiwan Port Corporation is a great honor,” said CY Huang, Chairman of Lian Tat Company. “It validates the strength of Eco Wave Power’s technology and Taiwan’s readiness to embrace marine renewables. We look forward to establishing Suao Port as a green energy demonstration site with global visibility.”
The collaboration between Eco Wave Power, I-KE, and Lian Tat Company supports Taiwan’s transition to sustainable energy sources. By leveraging the strategic location of Suao Port, the project aims to establish a model for wave energy development, contributing to regional economic growth and environmental sustainability through innovative renewable energy solutions.
