Wedoany.com Report-Sept. 9, Ericsson and the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) have extended their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to further develop 5G technologies in Thailand. The agreement, signed during a ceremony attended by senior representatives from both organizations, extends their partnership for two more years, building on the collaboration that began in 2022.

The signing event included Dr. Warin Ratchananusorn, Acting Senior Executive Vice President of depa, Dr. Supakorn Siddhichai, Group Executive Vice President of depa, and Mr. Anders Rian, President of Ericsson Thailand. Also present were Dr. Nattapon Nattasomboon, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES), and Mr. Per Linnér, the Swedish Embassy’s Chargé d’affaires.

The renewed cooperation supports Thailand’s Thailand 4.0 vision, emphasizing digital transformation and innovation. A key outcome of the initial collaboration has been the 5G Innovation and Experience Studio (5GIX Studio), established in Thailand Digital Valley, Chonburi province. This facility serves as a testbed and hub for developing advanced applications, enabling trials of next-generation wireless technologies, spectrum sharing, and solutions customized for Thailand’s digital economy.

Since its launch, the 5GIX Studio has attracted diverse technology partners to design and test applications such as robotics, automated machinery, and advanced surveillance systems. According to MDES, Thailand’s enterprise 5G market is projected to exceed USD 2.5 billion by 2027, fueled by adoption in manufacturing, logistics, energy, and smart city initiatives. By 2026, more than 70% of Thai enterprises are expected to implement digital technologies.

The extended MoU will include collaboration in knowledge exchange on digital economy policies, innovation strategies, and global best practices. Ericsson and depa will continue to explore new technologies and use cases through the 5GIX platform, with the goal of strengthening Thailand’s position as a digital leader in the region.

Ericsson, recognized globally as a leader in 5G, supports 187 live networks worldwide. The company has recently been ranked first in the Frost Radar™: Global 5G Network Infrastructure Market for the second consecutive year and secured the highest ranking in the Omdia Market Landscape RAN Vendors 2025 report. These achievements highlight Ericsson’s strong portfolio and commitment to innovation.

Anders Rian, President of Ericsson Thailand, said: “Ericsson remains committed to supporting Thailand’s journey toward becoming a digital society under the Thailand 4.0 vision. Leveraging our global expertise and advanced, secure and resilient 5G solutions, we aim to help build a robust and inclusive 5G ecosystem that empowers industries across the nation and encourages further investment in Thailand.”

Asst. Prof. Dr. Nuttapon Nimmanphatcharin, President & CEO of depa, said: “Ericsson is a strategic partner in our mission to strengthen Thailand’s digital economy. Together, we will work with industry stakeholders to develop forward-looking strategies and foster innovations that enhance quality of life and national competitiveness.”

Per Linnér, Chargé d’affaires of the Swedish Embassy, added: “Last week, Sweden and Thailand elevated our bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership. This agreement sets out our shared ambition to deepen cooperation in sustainable development, innovation, and digitalization. The MoU signing between Ericsson and depa is a perfect example of how that vision is already being translated into action.”
