Wedoany.com Report-Sept. 18, Baker Hughes has signed a multi-year agreement with Petrobras to extend the deployment of two stimulation vessels, Blue Marlin and Blue Orca, along with associated chemicals and services.
The 2008-built Blue Marlin and 2013-built Blue Orca will provide advanced chemical treatments to stimulate wells, enhancing production in both brownfield and greenfield projects across multiple basins. The vessels will also support well construction through gravel pack and frac pack operations.
This agreement extends the presence of both vessels in Brazil, where the Blue Marlin has been operating since 2008 and the Blue Orca since 2023. The previous contract had scheduled operations through April 2027, but the new deal will keep the vessels deployed until 2032.
“[The vessels] have long histories in Brazil, and the unmatched experience, expertise and capabilities of the vessels and their crews have helped Petrobras make the country’s pre-salt fields among the most productive in the world,” said Amerino Gatti, executive vice president, Oilfield Services & Equipment at Baker Hughes.
The extended deployment is expected to maintain operational continuity and support Petrobras’ ongoing development programs, ensuring high-efficiency well stimulation and optimized production.
By providing chemical treatments and specialized support for gravel pack and frac pack operations, the vessels contribute to maximizing output in a variety of reservoirs while maintaining safe and efficient offshore operations.
The agreement highlights Baker Hughes’ long-term collaboration with Petrobras and reinforces the company’s role as a key partner in supporting Brazil’s offshore oil and gas production.
The continued deployment of these advanced vessels also allows Petrobras to leverage proven technology and experienced crews, reducing operational risk and maintaining high productivity in its pre-salt and other offshore fields.
Overall, the contract reflects a strategic commitment to extending proven capabilities in offshore well stimulation, ensuring sustained performance and supporting long-term energy development in the region.
With this extension, Baker Hughes strengthens its presence in Brazil’s offshore oil sector while continuing to provide specialized vessels and services designed to enhance production and operational efficiency.
