Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 9, Norwegian construction firm Veidekke has been awarded a contract by the Swedish Transport Administration to undertake key construction work on the Korsvägen section of the West Link rail project in Gothenburg, Sweden. The agreement follows the termination of the previous contractor’s deal and focuses on stabilizing and continuing progress in one of the project’s most critical areas.

The Korsvägen section of the West Link tunnel spans more than 3km.

The newly assigned contract will be implemented for a limited period and includes securing the construction site while carrying out essential production activities across the Korsvägen, Skår, and Almedal zones. The Korsvägen segment of the West Link extends slightly over 3 kilometers, running from Landala through Korsvägen, Jakobsdal, and Skår, and connecting to existing railway lines in Almedal.

This portion of the project involves the construction of an underground station featuring platforms, commercial spaces, and a bicycle garage located on an intermediate level. The design also includes three station exits to improve accessibility and passenger flow. Veidekke’s role has been defined as an execution contract, with the overall scope and total invoicing to be determined progressively as work advances.

Immediate priorities include assessing the current condition of the project, identifying crucial tasks, and implementing a phased handover plan. The work will ensure that certain completed sections can be delivered to relevant stakeholders, including Gothenburg Municipality and the nearby Liseberg entertainment area.

Veidekke Anläggning Väst’s regional manager, Fredrik Indevall, stated: “We are proud to have once again earned the trust of the Swedish Transport Administration to enter into an existing project for a limited period of time. Our joint focus is now on executing the work needed to minimise impact on stakeholders, and on performing to a standard that creates the best possible conditions for the project’s completion through future contracts.”

The West Link, one of Sweden’s largest urban rail infrastructure projects, aims to improve capacity and connectivity within Gothenburg’s railway network by adding a new underground rail system. Veidekke’s involvement in the Korsvägen section underscores its continued collaboration with the Swedish Transport Administration on major national infrastructure developments.

Earlier, in August this year, Veidekke secured another contract under the West Link project—this time for constructing the Stora Hamnkanalen tunnel. This additional agreement further strengthens the company’s position as a key contributor to Sweden’s long-term transportation enhancement initiatives.

With the latest contract, Veidekke continues to demonstrate its capability in managing complex infrastructure projects requiring both technical precision and coordination among multiple stakeholders. The company’s work on the Korsvägen section is expected to ensure stability, maintain safety, and prepare the groundwork for the next phases of the West Link’s development.
