Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 9, The South Carolina Ports Authority (SC Ports) has named Micah Mallace as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, following a unanimous decision by the board of directors. Mallace’s appointment marks his return to SC Ports after several years in the maritime and logistics industry, bringing extensive experience and a strong record of leadership to the role.

Mallace previously worked at SC Ports for 11 years, from 2011 to 2022, most recently as Chief Commercial Officer. His return to the organization follows a successful tenure in the private sector, where he served as President of Harbor Logistics, a Charleston-based third-party logistics company specializing in drayage, warehousing, and transload services.

“I am humbled by the opportunity to serve as the next President and CEO at SC Ports,” said Mallace. “The port team and South Carolina’s broader maritime community provide port service that is unmatched, and I know, together, we will further strengthen our competitiveness.”

SC Ports Board Chairman Bill Stern said Mallace was the clear choice to lead the authority through its next stage of development. “Micah Mallace understands the significance and responsibility of what we do and how it influences global trade. We are extremely fortunate to have secured him as our new president and CEO,” Stern stated. He added that Mallace’s vision, operational knowledge, and industry insight will be vital in advancing SC Ports’ strategic goals.

Mallace succeeds interim President and CEO Phil Padgett, who has led the authority since early this year. Padgett will return to his previous role as Chief of Finance after the leadership transition.

In his new capacity, Mallace is expected to focus on enhancing port efficiency, expanding cargo handling capacity, and deepening partnerships with logistics and shipping stakeholders. He will deliver his first State of the Port address on October 28, where he is scheduled to outline his strategic vision for advancing South Carolina’s maritime competitiveness and supporting economic growth across the state.

SC Ports operates several key facilities, including marine terminals at the Port of Charleston and inland ports in Greer and Dillon. These operations play a significant role in supporting the region’s trade infrastructure and economic activity. The Port of Charleston is one of the fastest-growing container ports in the United States and currently ranks as the eighth-largest by container volume.

With Mallace at the helm, SC Ports aims to continue strengthening its global connections and improving operational performance. The authority’s commitment to modernizing infrastructure and providing efficient, reliable service is expected to support continued growth in trade and logistics for South Carolina and the broader southeastern region.
