Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 24, The Lighthouse project, a major initiative to build four advanced data centers in Wisconsin, is set to deliver nearly a gigawatt of computing power by its completion in 2028. Led by Vantage Data Centers in collaboration with Oracle and other partners, the project is designed to support the growing demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure.
The development is expected to generate significant economic benefits, including over 4,000 construction jobs, primarily union positions, and more than 1,000 permanent roles once the facilities are operational. The project is projected to contribute $2.7 billion to the regional economy, fostering growth and opportunity in the area.
Sustainability is a key focus of the Lighthouse campus. The data centers will operate on 100% zero-emission energy and utilize water-positive cooling systems to minimize environmental impact. Efforts to protect local ecosystems are also planned. Of the 672-acre site, only 500 acres will be developed, with the remaining land preserved as natural space. Vantage Data Centers aims to achieve LEED certification for the project, reflecting its commitment to environmental responsibility.
Vantage will invest at least $175 million in local infrastructure improvements, including upgrades to water, sewer, and power systems. The company has also committed to fully funding power infrastructure to ensure no additional costs are passed on to local electricity consumers.
Peter Hoeschele, OpenAI VP of industrial compute, stated: “Expanding Stargate to Wisconsin is another major step toward building the infrastructure that will help ensure everyone can benefit from AI. This project will create good jobs, advance zero-emission energy and boost the local economy—all while expanding capacity without raising rates for local consumers. We’re grateful to our partners at Oracle, Vantage and We Energies, as well as the many manufacturers, builders and suppliers across the region, for helping bring this ambitious vision to life.”
Mahesh Thiagarajan, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure EVP, added: “We’re pleased to work with Vantage Data Centers as we continue to rapidly expand our cloud capacity to meet the growing demand for AI. Oracle’s highly performant, secure and cost-effective AI infrastructure is fuelling a new era of innovation that will fortify American leadership in AI worldwide.”
Dana Adams, president of North America at Vantage Data Centers, remarked: “As demand for data centres expands beyond traditional hubs, the upper Midwest has become a critical and strategic market for Vantage Data Centers and our customers. Our investment in Wisconsin reflects the area’s strong foundation for digital growth to support sustainable AI innovation at scale. Vantage is committed to being a good neighbor and is prioritising investing in sustainable energy, minimising local impact and partnering closely with the community to be an economic driver for the state.”
