Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 27, A cargo ship departed on Saturday from Yantai Port in Shandong Province, eastern China, heading for Tanga Port in Tanzania, marking the official launch of a new general cargo shipping route. According to the Yantai Port Authority, this new route is the port’s 29th international general cargo route and represents another milestone in expanding its global supply chain network.7

ansported to neighboring inland countries such as Uganda and Rwanda, enhancing regional connectivity and trade facilitation. The new route is expected to strengthen the flow of goods and promote closer cooperation between China and African markets through improved maritime transport capacity.

Yantai Port currently operates international shipping routes covering Asia, Africa, America, and Europe. It handles more than 200 categories of cargo, including construction machinery, special equipment, and wind power components. The addition of the East Africa route expands its global coverage and supports the diversification of China’s export logistics channels.

In the first nine months of this year, Yantai Port’s general cargo throughput reached 11.9 million tonnes, a year-on-year increase of 41.8 percent, already surpassing the total volume recorded for the entire previous year. The port authority attributed this growth to the continuous optimization of operations, expansion of shipping routes, and improvements in service efficiency.

Officials from the Yantai Port Authority stated that the launch of the new route is a key step in developing the port into a comprehensive international logistics hub. The route will play a vital role in enhancing the efficiency of cargo movement between China and Africa and support the port’s goal of establishing a more resilient global transportation network.

The Yantai–Tanga route is also expected to contribute to the stability of regional supply chains and meet the increasing demand for large-scale equipment, construction materials, and other industrial goods in East Africa. With this new link, Yantai Port aims to provide high-quality logistics solutions and promote the growth of trade exchanges across multiple regions.
