Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 31, Peel Ports Group has announced a £10 million ($13 million) investment in its Great Yarmouth site, which will be renamed the Port of East Anglia. The funding is part of a total £70 million ($93 million) commitment to the facility in 2025, aimed at upgrading port infrastructure to meet the needs of the growing clean energy sector.

The new investment will be used to redevelop the port’s Northern Terminal, enabling it to support the next generation of offshore wind projects in the East Anglia region. Earlier this year, the Group committed £60 million ($79 million) to enhancing the Southern Terminal. That project focuses on expanding capacity and improving efficiency to accommodate clean energy initiatives including offshore wind, carbon capture, hydrogen, and nuclear projects.

Located on the east coast of the UK, the port is one of the deepest non-tidally restricted facilities in the region. It currently serves major construction and energy developments such as Sizewell C and various operations in the southern North Sea. The planned redevelopment aims to strengthen the port’s ability to support large-scale renewable energy operations and contribute to regional economic growth.

The rebranding of Great Yarmouth as the Port of East Anglia aligns with the forthcoming creation of a new combined authority for Suffolk and Norfolk, which is expected to take effect in early 2026. This regional restructuring seeks to enhance cooperation and economic development across East Anglia.

David Huck, Chief Operating Officer at Peel Ports Group, stated: “It’s fantastic to launch the Port of East Anglia and commit further investment to strengthen its operations. This reflects our confidence in the region and our commitment to ensuring Great Yarmouth remains at the forefront of the UK’s energy sector for generations to come.”

The Port of East Anglia will be officially launched on 30 October at Norwich City Football Club, in collaboration with the East of England Energy Group (EEEGR). The event will gather more than 100 business leaders from across the region to discuss the port’s role in supporting the energy transition along the East Coast.

In addition to these developments, Peel Ports Group recently appointed Gavin Laybourne as its first Chief Technology and Information Officer (CTIO). His role will focus on advancing digital transformation and technology-driven innovation within the company’s operations. Peel Ports, the UK’s second-largest port operator, continues to strengthen its presence in the clean energy supply chain, with the Port of East Anglia positioned as a key hub for future offshore energy projects.
