Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 19, In September 2025, demand for grey cement in Colombia rose by 15.9% compared to the same month in 2024, reaching 1.163 million tonnes (Mt) from 1.004 Mt, according to the country's statistics office, DANE. The increase was driven by various segments within the cement industry.
Bulk cement dispatches saw a 7.3% year-on-year (YoY) increase, with ready-mix concrete companies expanding their off-take by 5.7% YoY. Sales to construction companies and contractors rose by 0.9% YoY. Bagged cement sales experienced a significant surge, improving by 20.3% YoY, largely driven by a 24.1% increase in wholesale and retail sector sales.
Domestic production also saw growth, advancing by 9.9% YoY to 1.22 Mt in September 2025, compared to 1.11 Mt in the same month the previous year. This increase in production supports the growing demand for cement in various sectors.
Looking at the broader year-to-date performance, national demand for cement in the first nine months of 2025 (January-September) increased by 4% YoY, reaching 9.378 Mt, up from 9.018 Mt during the same period in 2024. A key contributor to this growth was the wholesale/retail segment, which saw a 10.5% increase in off-take, leading to a 7.1% rise in bagged cement sales for the period.
However, bulk cement sales showed a slight decline of 2.1% YoY. The reduction was mainly due to lower purchases from ready-mix concrete companies, down by 5.1%, and from contractors and building firms, which saw a 3.9% drop in their off-take.
Cement production in Colombia’s plants also saw a modest increase of 2.4% YoY during the first nine months of 2025, reaching 10.216 Mt, up from 9.976 Mt in the same period in 2024.
Overall, the cement industry in Colombia has seen a positive performance in 2025, with strong growth in domestic demand, particularly in bagged cement and the wholesale/retail sector, although there were slight reductions in bulk cement sales.
