Wedoany.com Report-Dec.11, HD Hyundai Construction Equipment, a major South Korean manufacturer, has chosen Iridium Communications as its satellite connectivity partner for the Hi MATE remote equipment management system. The integration of Iridium's global satellite network significantly extends Hi MATE's coverage, enabling real-time monitoring of excavators, wheel loaders and other machinery even in areas without terrestrial cellular networks.

Iridium's satellite network covers the entire globe.

Hi MATE provides owners and fleet managers with comprehensive data including machine location, engine operating hours, fuel usage, diagnostic alerts, geofencing and daily performance reports. With Iridium's satellite Internet-of-Things service, these functions now operate seamlessly in remote construction, mining, forestry and infrastructure sites worldwide.

Iridium operates a low-Earth-orbit constellation that delivers voice, data and positioning services to every part of the planet. Its Short Burst Data (SBD) technology is widely used for reliable transmission of small packets of operational information from assets located far beyond conventional network reach.

Tim Last, Executive Vice-President at Iridium, stated: "As a leading equipment manufacturer, HD Hyundai Construction Equipment has set the bar high for reliability by adding Iridium's low-latency, reliable connectivity to Hi MATE, enabling their customers to get critical data regardless of deployment conditions. With Iridium Short Burst Data (SBD), Hyundai's customers gain unmatched global coverage and mission-critical reliability, key advantages for equipment operating in even the most remote locations."

The partnership allows HD Hyundai to offer enhanced service continuity to customers operating in challenging environments, helping to minimise unplanned downtime and improve overall fleet productivity through timely maintenance notifications and operational insights.

Headquartered in Virginia, United States, Iridium serves multiple industries requiring robust communications from isolated locations. In 2024, the company strengthened its portfolio by acquiring Satelles, adding secure timing and location capabilities independent of traditional satellite navigation systems.

Separately, HD Hyundai Construction Equipment inaugurated a new production facility at its Ulsan Campus in Dong-gu, South Korea, in May 2025. The modern plant supports increased manufacturing capacity for the company’s expanding range of construction machinery supplied to domestic and international markets.

The collaboration with Iridium marks another step in HD Hyundai's strategy to deliver advanced digital solutions that keep customers connected and productive regardless of geography. Implementation of the satellite-enhanced Hi MATE service is already underway, with full global rollout progressing according to schedule.
