Liontown Resources announced that its Kathleen Valley lithium project in Western Australia has completed the operational transition from open-pit to full underground mining. The company has concluded the three-year open-pit mining phase, shipping out the final batch of open-pit ore.

During the initial open-pit mining phase, the company utilized waste rock generated from mining to construct key infrastructure such as the run-of-mine stockpile and tailings storage facility. The ore provided by the open pit enabled early commencement of production commissioning and ramp-up, and facilitated related approval processes. By establishing a stable feed source for the processing plant, the newly initiated underground mining operation is expected to progressively reach its full production capacity of 2.8 million tonnes per annum, with this feed supply anticipated to last until early FY2027.

The Kathleen Valley Lithium Mine is located in the northern Goldfields region of Western Australia. Lithium, as a critical raw material, is widely used in rechargeable batteries, electric vehicles, and energy storage systems. Its market demand continues to grow alongside the global electrification trend. Liontown Resources is committed to supporting the development of related industries through stable supply.
