Wedoany.com Report-Jan.1, The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) released its December 2025 report on Fresh Apples, Grapes, and Pears: World Markets and Trade. The report forecasts a 5% decline in global apple production for the 2025/26 season, totaling 81.7 million metric tons.

The primary factors behind this decrease are substantial reductions in output from China and Turkey. These declines more than offset production gains in the United States and other regions. In China, apple harvest is expected to fall by 2.3 million tons to 47.0 million tons. Adverse weather conditions in key growing areas, combined with a reduction in orchard acreage, contributed to this outcome.

Turkey faces an even steeper drop, with production projected to decrease by 57% to 2.0 million tons. Severe spring frosts were the main cause of the sharp reduction.

In contrast, Ukraine’s apple sector shows stability. Analysts project production to remain unchanged from the previous season at 1.173 million tons. Domestic consumption is forecasted at 1.158 million tons, indicating a balanced supply-demand situation within the country.

The table grape market presents a different trend. Global production is expected to rise by 545,000 tons, reaching 30.0 million tons. China plays a central role in this growth. The adoption of rain shelter technologies and the cultivation of year-round varieties have enabled China to increase its grape harvest to 15.0 million tons. For the first time, China may share the position of the world’s largest table grape exporter with Peru.

Pear production worldwide is forecast to decline by 2% to 26.1 million tons. China and Turkey again experienced the largest reductions, primarily due to drought and frost damage. Meanwhile, the United States plans to increase pear output to 565,000 tons. This improvement is expected to allow the country to return to its position as a net exporter of pears.

The USDA report highlights varying dynamics across these fruit categories. While apples and pears face production challenges in major producing countries, table grapes benefit from technological advancements and favorable growing conditions in key regions. These shifts influence global supply availability, trade flows, and market balances for the 2025/26 season.

The forecast provides valuable guidance for producers, traders, and industry participants. It underscores the importance of weather resilience, orchard management practices, and the adoption of modern cultivation techniques in maintaining stable output. The data also reflect ongoing efforts in various countries to adapt to changing conditions and meet global demand for fresh fruit.
