Wedoany.com Report-Dec.30, The off-road route project connecting Glan Conwy with the Llandudno Junction hub—the Conwy New Connection Bridge Project—will restart next month.
The project was launched in March 2025. Upon completion, this 2-kilometre off-road path will include a 3-metre-wide shared-use trail and two new bridges spanning the Conwy Valley Railway and the Afon Ganol River, forming a complete bridge project structure. To ensure year-round usability, the project also includes plans for environmentally friendly lighting systems. Jennings Construction and Civil Engineering Ltd is responsible for the implementation. The first phase of the bridge project focuses on improving the route from the Conwy Railway Bridge to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) car park and constructing a new path running through the visitor centre. During construction, from March to September, work will be limited to areas outside the reserve to minimise disturbance to bird habitats.
As of December, the bridge project has achieved significant milestones: completion of a 650-metre section of the path from the Conwy Railway Bridge to the RSPB access; excavation, levelling, and laying of a 1,200-metre road from the RSPB access to the Afon Ganol Bridge up to subgrade level; the Afon Ganol Bridge structure has been lifted into place, forming a key bridge and culvert node; work on the railway bridge ramp has commenced, with the bridge sections being prefabricated off-site and scheduled for installation in spring 2026. To align with the overall bridge project schedule, the Green Seat parking area will be closed from January 19 until May 2026. Conwy County Borough Council is collaborating with North Wales Trunk Road Agency and the Welsh Government to advance the subsequent bridge and culvert section from the Green Seat parking area to the Glan Conwy centre. The entire project is planned for completion in July 2026.
