Wedoany.com Report on Jan 31st, Uzbekistan's Ministry of Economy and Finance announced via the Trend news agency that the country has held in-depth discussions with Turkey's Limak company regarding cooperation on hydropower plant construction. The meeting was co-chaired by Uzbekistan's Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Kuchkarov and Limak founder Sezai Bacaksiz.

During the meeting, both parties focused on Limak's professional expertise in the hydropower sector. It is reported that the company has successfully built 10 hydropower plants in Turkey, and its technology and management models are considered applicable to Uzbekistan's hydropower development projects. In addition to hydropower cooperation, the meeting also explored the possibility of Limak's participation in the upgrade, renovation, and operational management of an international airport in Uzbekistan. The company has accumulated extensive airport management experience through public-private partnership models in countries such as Kuwait, Senegal, and Kosovo.

Uzbekistan currently has 58 operational hydropower plants with a total installed capacity of 2,233 megawatts, a significant increase from the 35 plants in 2017. According to government plans, nearly 3,000 new micro hydropower plants will be built by 2026, which is expected to add 164 megawatts to the renewable energy installed capacity. In 2023, the country completed the construction of 8 power plants, including 3 large-scale and 5 micro hydropower plants. The Tashkent region currently has 25 hydropower plants, whose installed capacity accounts for 60% of the national total. Furthermore, a project funded by the World Bank, scheduled for implementation between 2025 and 2030, will support the construction of 150 megawatts of small hydropower plants.

As a leading enterprise in Turkey's construction industry, Limak has an annual revenue of approximately $4.1 billion and ranks among the world's top 20 construction companies. This meeting with Uzbekistan marks a new step in cooperation between the two sides in the fields of infrastructure and energy.
