Wedoany.com Report on Feb 5th, The Offshore Wind Growth Partnership (OWGP) recently announced the list of recipients for the second round of its Manufacturing Facilities Support Programme (MFSP), with five UK companies jointly receiving £1.2 million in funding aimed at accelerating investment in offshore wind manufacturing facilities.
The funding will be allocated to King Site Services (SW) Limited, Mainstay Marine Solutions, Marine Power Systems, Peterhead Energy Service Base Limited, and PPI Engineering Ltd to support early-stage preparatory work for developing new manufacturing facilities or expanding existing ones. These initiatives will help enhance the UK's production capacity for key offshore wind components, equipment, and systems, aligning with the development goals set by the Offshore Wind Industrial Growth Plan (IGP).
The MFSP provides up to £500,000 in matched funding per project to mitigate early-stage investment risks and stimulate capital expenditure in the UK manufacturing sector. These projects are expected to attract at least £5 million in capital investment within two years, generate £5 million in annual revenue, and create no fewer than 20 new jobs within five years.
Specific projects cover secondary steel production for floating wind, material storage for multi-vessel construction plans, initial development for deep-water platform manufacturing, construction of turbine generator maintenance facilities, and the establishment of cable handling centres. These efforts will expand UK manufacturing capacity, promote technological innovation, and strengthen the stability and competitiveness of the domestic offshore wind supply chain.
Tom Piper, Programme Manager at OWGP, stated: "The Manufacturing Facilities Support Programme aims to provide critical support to high-quality projects, propelling them towards the final investment decision stage. The second round of funding demonstrates the development potential of the UK supply chain. By assisting these five projects, we are helping companies accelerate the scaling up of their manufacturing capabilities, boost investment confidence, and play a more significant role in achieving offshore wind development targets."
Lynne McIntosh-Grieve, Programme Delivery Lead at OWGP, added: "Enhancing UK manufacturing capacity is crucial for the large-scale deployment of offshore wind. The MFSP bridges the gap between initial development and significant capital investment, helping businesses turn concepts into implementable facilities. This funding will foster long-term industrial growth, create high-value jobs, and enhance the competitiveness of the entire supply chain."
Iain Sinclair, Executive Director at Global Energy Services Holdings and Non-Executive Director at OWGP, noted: "This programme focuses on building lasting capabilities in the UK, not just supporting individual projects. Through two funding rounds, the MFSP has assisted 10 companies with early-stage investment in manufacturing facilities, laying the groundwork for sustained growth, export potential, and a more resilient domestic supply chain. The projects supported in this round represent a significant step towards achieving the UK's offshore wind targets for 2030 and beyond."
