Recently, the G1503 Highway and Zhou-Deng Expressway Pudong Hub Section Project reached a critical milestone as the tunnel structure of the G1503 expressway was officially completed. This breakthrough marks significant progress in the construction of this section, laying a solid foundation for the G1503 expressway to become operational within the year. The G1503 expressway tunnel section is approximately 3.2 kilometers long and was constructed using the cut-and-cover method.

The final roof slab for this tunnel breakthrough was located beneath the Wenju Road Overpass. As a key node for the overpass underpinning, the project team implemented strict quality control during construction. During the process, the team completed low-clearance, large-diameter, ultra-deep bored cast-in-place piles as underpinning foundations. While excavating the foundation pit, they demolished the old bridge piles, controlling the settlement of the overpass to within 1 centimeter, ensuring the underpinning work and the breakthrough of the G1503 expressway tunnel structure were completed as scheduled.
To address the complex construction environment characterized by dense on-site equipment and proximity to important thoroughfares, the project team introduced a smart construction site management model, utilizing an Internet of Things (IoT) safety management cloud platform for construction machinery. This platform enables real-time monitoring of equipment status, enhances safety management efficiency, optimizes equipment management processes, and achieves real-time overload prevention and anti-tipping protection, providing safety assurance for the tunnel breakthrough and subsequent construction. Technologies related to smart construction sites were also applied in stages such as tunnel structure pouring to improve operational efficiency and coordination.

The official breakthrough of the G1503 expressway tunnel structure creates favorable conditions for the subsequent opening of the expressway. Once operational, this section will optimize the regional expressway layout, effectively divert traffic pressure from Pudong Airport and the future Shanghai East Railway Station, improve traffic efficiency, and provide transportation support for the operation of the Shanghai International Aviation Hub and the International Business Cooperation Zone.
