On February 14, 2026, at the groundbreaking ceremony for Summit Estate Global in Apo Dutse, Abuja, Nigerian Vice President Kashim Shettima, represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Legal and Compliance, Bashir Maidugu, urged real estate developers to prioritize environmental sustainability, comply with regulatory requirements, and demonstrate professionalism in construction and property management. He emphasized that modern urban development should go beyond appearance and infrastructure to incorporate environmentally responsible practices, such as rational land-use planning, effective waste management, and the preservation of green spaces.
Shettima noted that planned projects like Summit Estate Global help alleviate the burden on densely populated areas, curb unplanned expansion, and promote the creation of cleaner, healthier urban environments. He commended the promoters and partners for demonstrating a vision of structured, environmentally-oriented urban growth, stating that sustainable housing is directly linked to public health and the long-term resilience of cities. The Vice President stressed, "Housing projects must simultaneously meet building codes and environmental regulations to protect natural resources, reduce pollution levels, and enhance residents' quality of life."
The Vice President further explained that sustainable real estate development aligns with national goals in environmental protection, climate adaptation, and energy efficiency, contributing to long-term economic and ecological stability. Dr. Rebecca Godwin-Isaac, CEO of Homadil Realty Ltd., introduced that Summit Estate Global was designed with integrated sustainable elements, including energy-efficient buildings, comprehensive drainage systems, and carefully planned landscaping. The project comprises 100 detached duplexes, 50 semi-detached duplexes, apartment buildings, a shopping mall, and other supporting facilities.
Dr. Godwin-Isaac expressed gratitude to the Federal Capital Development Authority, under the leadership of Minister Nyesom Wike and President Tinubu, for promoting responsible urban planning and sustainable infrastructure development in the Federal Capital Territory. Construction partners such as J.I. Construct Ltd., Valentino Resources, and Tadas Okwonko also affirmed their commitment to using eco-friendly materials, reducing construction waste, and adhering to green building standards to support the implementation of sustainable development and environmental standards in the real estate sector.
