Wedoany.com Report on Feb 26th, The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority, in collaboration with Uber, showcased the Uber Air service powered by Joby Aviation. In the future, passengers will be able to book fully electric air taxis directly through the Uber app.

Joby is expected to begin passenger operations in Dubai later this year, marking a significant milestone in the collaboration between Uber and Joby. The goal is to expand multimodal transportation solutions to cities worldwide. According to the official announcement, passengers can enter their destination in the Uber app. If the trip meets the requirements, the Uber Air option will appear as one of the choices. With a simple tap, they can book the entire journey, including Uber Black pick-up and drop-off arrangements.

Joby's electric air taxi can carry up to four passengers, featuring comfortable seats and large panoramic windows that offer sweeping views of the city skyline. Operated by certified pilots, it aims to revolutionize urban mobility. The aircraft utilizes six tilting propellers for vertical takeoff and landing, reaching a top speed of 200 miles per hour and a range of approximately 100 miles on a single charge. It is designed with multiple redundant systems for enhanced safety and features low noise levels suitable for urban environments.

Before commencing commercial operations in the United States, the Federal Aviation Administration requires rigorous testing and certification. Joby has completed over 50,000 miles of flight testing with its fleet and is in the final stages of the certification process.

Uber and Joby have been collaborating since 2019 to develop an urban air mobility system. In 2021, Joby acquired Uber's Elevate division, accelerating market expansion and tool development. Last year, the two companies also planned to integrate Blade's helicopter services into the Uber app by 2026, further expanding travel options. Once approved, Joby's electric air taxi service is expected to expand to locations including Dubai, New York, Los Angeles, the UK, and Japan.
