Wedoany.com Report on Feb 26th, Kongsberg Maritime recently announced that it will supply a fully integrated equipment package for an ultra-large Cable Laying Vessel (CLV) being built by Turkish shipyard Tersan for LS Marine Solution. This cable laying vessel is designed to meet the growing global demand for subsea High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) and fiber optic cable installation and is scheduled to enter operation in 2028.

The cable laying vessel is 148.4 meters in length, 31 meters in width, with a cable carrying capacity of 13,000 tons and a total displacement of 18,800 tons. After approximately three years of construction, it will support offshore energy infrastructure projects, particularly cable deployment for floating wind farms.

Kongsberg Maritime's scope of work includes supplying the K-Pos dynamic positioning system, integrated control and navigation systems, a battery hybrid DC electrical system, and all main propulsion and thruster units. This equipment will help enhance the performance and efficiency of the cable laying vessel.

The battery hybrid DC power and propulsion system is designed to reduce engine usage during operations. Through high-capacity shore power connection and an energy control system, the vessel can achieve zero-emission operation during port stays and cable loading activities, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and align with global ESG standards.

Furthermore, the cable laying vessel will be equipped with permanent magnet motors and the K-Pos dynamic positioning system on all azimuth thrusters to improve positioning accuracy and operational efficiency. The design also supports the deployment of a remote cable pull-in system for floating wind farms, enabling the pull-in and hang-off operations of dynamic cables without personnel transfer or crane-based equipment handling.

Leszek Kopec, Senior Sales Manager at Kongsberg Maritime, stated: "This project exemplifies Kongsberg Maritime's consistent commitment to applying our in-house expertise in cable laying operations to optimize marine and mission system integration. This is the fifth fully integrated system award we have secured for a cable laying vessel within the past year."
