The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) officially approved three multi-track railway projects with a total value of Rs 90,720 million through a resolution passed on February 24, 2026. These multi-track railway projects aim to enhance railway transportation capacity in multiple Indian states, covering regions such as Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, and Jharkhand.

Among them, the Gondia-Jabalpur railway doubling project is the largest one. It involves doubling a 230.5-kilometer-long railway line between Jabalpur and Gondia railway stations in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. The estimated cost of this project is Rs 46,710 million, and upon completion, it will significantly improve the efficiency of the railway network in this region.
Another project is the Punarakh-Kiul third and fourth line project, located in Bihar. It plans to lay the third and fourth railway lines from Punarakh to Kiul. This will help alleviate traffic pressure on existing lines and support local economic development.
Furthermore, the Ganhariya-Chandil third and fourth railway line project will be implemented in Jharkhand, laying a 56-kilometer-long third and fourth railway line from Ganhariya to Chandil railway station. These multi-track railway projects are collectively expected to promote regional connectivity and enhance the overall efficiency of the transportation system.
