Nike has appointed Cimarron Nix as its new Chief Sustainability Officer, responsible for leading its global ESG strategy. This appointment was confirmed internally by Chief Operating Officer Venkatesh Alagirisamy, filling a vacancy left since September 2025 after former Chief Sustainability Officer Jaycee Pribulsky departed to join Apollo.

Nix will officially assume the role on March 15, reporting directly to Alagirisamy. Her appointment comes at a time when global apparel companies are facing increasing pressure from regulators, investors, and civil society to demonstrate tangible progress on climate goals, supply chain transparency, and labor protection.

With over a decade of experience in sustainability governance and global manufacturing operations, Nix is well-positioned to lead Nike's ESG strategy. She joined Nike in 2017 as Director of Labor, Sustainable Manufacturing, and Sourcing, focusing on labor standards and responsible production within the global supplier network. Most recently, she served as Vice President of Global Apparel and Accessories Manufacturing, overseeing operational strategy for a complex network of contract manufacturers.

In her new role, Nix will lead Nike's global sustainability team, overseeing the company's corporate sustainability strategy. Nike has set environmental and social goals linked to its "Move to Zero" strategy, focusing on reducing carbon emissions, minimizing waste, and increasing circularity in product design and manufacturing.

In the announcement, Alagirisamy stated: "At Nike, sustainability is an integral part of how we serve athletes and grow our business. One of our greatest strengths is our ability to innovate at scale—driving a responsive, resilient, responsible, and efficient value chain. With that in mind, I am pleased to announce that Cimarron Nix will become our new Nike, Inc. Chief Sustainability Officer, leading the Global Sustainability team."

The focus on value chain innovation reflects a broader shift in the apparel industry, where emission reduction and social compliance heavily depend on supplier networks. Manufacturing and material sourcing account for the majority of the fashion industry's emissions, making supplier engagement and process innovation central to corporate climate strategies.

Nike's decision to elevate a manufacturing leader to the Chief Sustainability Officer role highlights how sustainability governance is increasingly being integrated into operational leadership. In the EU and other major markets, companies face increasingly stringent requirements around supply chain due diligence, environmental disclosure, and product sustainability standards. This move signals Nike's intent to leverage operational expertise to drive its ESG strategy, ensuring sustainability commitments translate into measurable change.
