Wedoany.com Report on Mar 19th, Developer Q ENERGY has taken a stake in the Pennavel project company in Brittany, France, which is developing a 270MW floating offshore wind farm. Q ENERGY will hold a 33% stake in the project, joining existing shareholders Elicio France and BayWa r.e., who previously held 50% each.

Pennavel Project Director Jerome Hilt stated that Q ENERGY's addition will "enhance the consortium's capabilities and experience." He said: "The arrival of Q ENERGY is a strong signal for Pennavel. It confirms the solidity of its fundamentals and the relevance of the work carried out by the team for over 18 months. We are delighted to welcome a new, experienced shareholder who shares our values and commitment to a pioneering, eco-friendly, and value-creating project. This is a real opportunity for the project."

Q ENERGY has over two decades of experience in offshore wind development. In 2012, the company won the contract for the Ailes Marines consortium as part of the tender for one of the first French offshore wind farms in the Bay of Saint-Brieuc. That wind farm, consisting of 62 wind turbines with a total capacity of 496 MW, became operational in 2024 and was advanced to the construction phase by Q ENERGY and its partners.

Q ENERGY Offshore Director Ken Ilacqua said: "We chose to join Pennavel because of the project's quality, solid fundamentals, and its strong territorial roots. It is a mature, well-structured project aligned with our vision for developing offshore wind in France. We are pleased to join and work with the Pennavel team to contribute to its success." He added: "We aim to be a long-term player in France."

The array of 13 wind turbines in southern Brittany is scheduled to be commissioned in 2031, with individual turbine capacities expected to exceed 20MW. The developers secured the site in May 2024 as part of the AO5 tender, further advancing floating offshore wind projects in France.
