en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 21st, The Climate Impact Partners announced that the INFAPRO rainforest restoration project in Sabah, Malaysia, has begun issuing verified carbon removal credits. Developed by Face the Future in collaboration with the Sabah Foundation, the project has restored over 25,000 hectares of logged dipterocarp rainforest to date, making it one of the longest-running restoration projects globally.
The project is equipped with nearly 400 monitoring points, providing a scientifically robust data foundation for CO₂ sequestration calculations and ensuring the high integrity of the issued credits. Climate Impact Partners continues to collaborate with Face the Future to support regional restoration efforts, including organizing local training, conducting monthly forest patrols, and distributing tree seedlings to facilitate broader rainforest restoration.
In an independent assessment by BeZero, the Sabah project received an overall A.pre rating and an AA score for permanence. The assessment noted that the project faces extremely low reversal risks, demonstrates stable long-term operations, and shows a high alignment between independently measured carbon gains and peer-reviewed ecological studies.
With this rating, the Sabah INFAPRO project has become one of the highest-scoring Improved Forest Management (IFM) projects globally, reflecting strong confidence in its carbon removal permanence and credit quality. Through its extensive network of monitoring points, the project can observe the complete natural growth cycle of dipterocarp forests, the primary native rainforest type in Borneo.
Unlike other IFM projects that typically monitor annually and issue credits on a yearly basis, the Sabah INFAPRO project employs a landscape-scale, large-area monitoring approach. This method allows the project to issue credits only after the forest has passed through its most productive biological growth stages, ensuring that CO₂ gains reflect sustained, measurable sequestration rather than incremental yearly estimates.
The project is registered under Verra's Verified Carbon Standard as the "INFAPRO Restoration of Logged-Over Dipterocarp Forest in Sabah, Malaysia." The issued high-quality IFM credits are now available on the carbon market for buyers, providing reliable support for global carbon reduction efforts.
