Forestry indicators show that 6.5 million maritime pine (pinheiro-bravo) seedlings were certified during the 2024/2025 planting season, a 40% decrease from the previous season, corresponding to a potential afforestation area of 5,206 hectares for 2025/2026. In 2025, the number of common land (baldios) associations in Portugal increased from 19 to 48, a 153% rise; the area covered by these associations grew by 58% to 186,218 hectares, strengthening the coordination and joint management of community-owned land, where maritime pine holds significant weight.

Mainland Portugal experienced a particularly severe fire season that year, with a total of 270,695 hectares burned, 22% of which were maritime pine forests.

On the industrial side, the sector consumed 3.27 million cubic meters of debarked pine wood in 2025, down 5% year-on-year; sawnwood production fell by the same 5%, while particleboard output increased by 2%. The gross value added (GVA) of the pine value chain reached €1.89 billion, up 2% year-on-year, based on 2024 economic data from Statistics Portugal (INE), accounting for 60% of the forestry sector's GVA.

The new edition of Indicadores da Fileira do Pinho compiles over 22 indicators, providing a reference for companies, landowners, researchers, and public decision-makers to track industry trends. The publication also includes data such as the average purchase price of standing timber in public auctions held by the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF) and the average ex-works price of domestically produced resin.
