en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 25th, The Port of Lázaro Cárdenas in Mexico has signed a partial rights transfer agreement with Port Lázaro Cárdenas SA de CV to initiate the development project for its fourth terminal. This move aims to enhance the port's multipurpose operational capabilities, focusing on handling coastal freight, mineral bulk cargo, and general cargo to meet the growing maritime demand.
The contract, based on the public tender ASIPONA/LÁZAROCÁRDENAS/TUMIV/01/25, was signed on January 26, 2026, and registered with the Port Authority on February 26 of the same year. The agreement includes the construction, equipping, and operation of a multipurpose public-use terminal designed for handling various types of cargo in short-sea shipping, explicitly excluding container cargo operations.
The development of the fourth terminal at the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas is part of the port's infrastructure expansion strategy, aiming to strengthen its position as a logistics hub for international maritime trade. The port demonstrated strong performance in January 2026, with mineral cargo accounting for 25% of its total throughput, providing commercial justification for a terminal dedicated to bulk and general cargo and further solidifying the port's role in regional trade.
