en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 26th, Amtrak's Gulf Coast train service has shown strong performance since resuming operations, with passenger volume surpassing early forecasts. The route connecting New Orleans and Mobile has attracted a significant number of passengers, carrying over 10,000 riders per month since its restart in August 2023.

Passengers have given positive feedback on the Gulf Coast train service. Barbara Nelson said, "The train trip was wonderful. I would ride it again and again." Nancy Richardson recalled, "I haven't taken a train from Mobile since the late 60s when I took a train from Mobile to New York." Sheila Hale also commented, "I enjoyed it so much, oh my goodness, I can't wait to come back, and I'm going to bring my church family."

According to Nikki Moon, a tourism advocate for the Southern Rail Commission, Amtrak initially projected 71,000 passengers in the first year, but within just six months, the passenger count has already reached 80,000. Moon noted, "This is a huge blessing for everyone in our coastal region." Although monthly passenger numbers have slightly declined after the initial peak, they continue to exceed forecasts, never dropping below 10,000 per month, equivalent to over 300 passengers per day.

Amtrak reports indicate that the Gulf Coast train service often sells out, with additional cars added during events like Mardi Gras to meet demand. The service operates two daily departures from New Orleans at 7:35 AM and 5:35 PM. The Gulf Coast train, which had been suspended for 20 years, is part of the "Sunset Limited" route. Its resumption provides a new transportation option for the region.
