Wedoany.com Report-Dec 30, The five-year agreement includes retrofitting the wagons with VTG's iWagon technology, a system designed to integrate smart monitoring capabilities into rail freight operations.

Tarmac has confirmed the renewal of its lease agreement for 30 JGA-M tank wagons with VTG Rail UK, effective from 1 January 2025.

The JGA-M wagons are primarily used for transporting powdered cement from Tarmac's Dunbar cement plant in Scotland and the Tunstead Quarry in Buxton. Each wagon has a gross laden weight of 101.6 tonnes, contributing to Tarmac's rail freight operations across the UK. With over 60 rail-connected sites, the company transports approximately nine million tonnes of construction materials annually.

The adoption of iWagon technology follows Tarmac's participation in a trial program in 2023, which involved deploying three modified VTG JPA tank wagons on daily services from Dunbar to Seaham. The trial aimed to test the technology's performance in improving monitoring and operational efficiency.

The renewed lease agreement aligns with Tarmac's broader efforts to integrate technological advancements into its rail logistics. The iWagon system is expected to offer better data insights for improved operational oversight across the wagon fleet.

The retrofitting process is scheduled to commence in line with the lease renewal timeline, ensuring the wagons are equipped with iWagon technology for continued service in Tarmac's supply chain operations.
