en.Wedoany.com Reported - UAE state-owned renewable energy developer Masdar has signed a Collaboration Framework Agreement (CFA) with Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), planning to deploy over 30GW of solar photovoltaic capacity and more than 8GW of battery energy storage in the UAE. The agreement aims to accelerate the development of utility-scale renewable energy projects, optimize the energy mix, and ensure supply security.
EWEC CEO Ahmed Ali Alshamsi stated: "As a driving force behind the UAE's energy transition, EWEC is leading the global shift towards sustainable, utility-scale power and water production. This CFA with Masdar is a key strategic tool that enables us to accelerate the transition and meet 60% of Abu Dhabi's total energy demand from renewable and clean sources by 2035." He added that by streamlining development processes, solar PV capacity is expected to exceed 30GW by 2035, integrated with over 8GW of energy storage, thereby reshaping the industry landscape.
The agreement builds on the existing collaboration between the two parties, which has jointly delivered major solar PV projects such as Al Dhafra, Al Ajban, and Khazna, as well as a gigawatt-scale 'round-the-clock' solar-plus-storage project. Alshamsi noted that the framework aligns with the UAE's 2050 Net Zero strategy, aiming to optimize processes, reduce costs, and improve efficiency. EWEC plans to achieve near-zero emission water production by 2030 and meet 60% of Abu Dhabi's energy demand with clean energy by 2035.
