en.Wedoany.com Reported - Vietnam's national oil company Petrovietnam has recently received its first shipment of Djeno crude oil from the Republic of the Congo, destined for the country's largest refinery, the Nghi Son Refinery.

In a statement released last weekend, Petrovietnam said the 950,000-barrel cargo was discharged last week at Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical LLC. The refinery, which has a daily processing capacity of 200,000 barrels, previously relied almost entirely on crude oil from Kuwait. However, due to disruptions in Kuwaiti crude shipments caused by the Iran conflict, Vietnam has been forced to seek new supply sources.

Petrovietnam noted: "Diversifying crude oil input sources is of practical significance for improving raw material self-sufficiency, supporting stable refinery operations, and ensuring the supply of petroleum products to the domestic market." The Nghi Son Refinery had previously indicated it was considering methods such as quarterly tenders and spot purchases to secure sufficient crude oil to maintain normal production.

Shipping data from the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) shows that a tanker carrying Iraqi crude oil is expected to arrive at the refinery on May 30, after being seized by the U.S. Navy in the Gulf of Oman for five days. The shareholder structure of the Nghi Son Refinery is: Japan's Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd. and Kuwait Petroleum Company each hold a 35.1% stake, Vietnam's Petrovietnam holds 25.1%, and Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. holds 4.7%.

Petrovietnam stated in its announcement that it will continue to import crude oil for the local refinery.
