en.Wedoany.com Reported - Recently, the project "Key Technologies and Equipment Development for Live-Line Ice Melting on DC Transmission Lines," led by the China Southern Power Grid Research Institute and with core participation from XJ Electric, a subsidiary of China Electrical Equipment, successfully passed the scientific and technological achievement appraisal organized by the China Electricity Council. A panel of nine authoritative industry experts, chaired by Qiu Aici, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, unanimously determined that the overall technology of this achievement has reached an internationally leading level, successfully solving a global challenge in power grid ice prevention and power security.

Ice disasters are a major extreme meteorological hazard threatening the safe operation of power grids, easily causing line trips, conductor breaks, and tower collapses, and even leading to large-scale blackouts, which has long constrained the safe and stable operation of power systems. With the accelerated construction of China's new power system, the integration of a high proportion of renewable energy and the normalization of extreme weather impose higher requirements on disaster prevention, mitigation, and continuous reliable power supply. Traditional ice melting technologies require line outages for implementation, making it difficult to balance the dual needs of ice prevention and power supply assurance.

This project has broken through the core bottleneck of live-line ice melting on DC transmission lines, forming an independent and controllable technology and equipment system. As the core development unit, XJ Electric has played a significant role in key technology breakthroughs, core equipment R&D, and engineering applications, achieving two landmark innovative results.

First, it successfully developed a 25MVA immersion-type ice melting device, pioneering a compact, passive self-circulating cooling system for high-power ice melting devices. This achieves a substantial improvement in heat dissipation capacity, a 60% reduction in floor space, and an 80% decrease in operational energy consumption, significantly optimizing equipment performance and economic efficiency.

Second, it developed a modular integrated mobile ice melting system, integrating functions such as live-line operation and induced voltage suppression. This system can adapt to complex terrain and harsh weather conditions, reducing on-site deployment time from 4–8 hours with traditional solutions to 2–3 hours. It enables rapid response across the entire power grid, flexible multi-point support, and efficient and safe ice melting, comprehensively enhancing the grid's emergency response capability for ice disasters.

This achievement realizes "live-line operation, rapid response, and high efficiency" for ice melting on DC transmission lines, fundamentally solving the traditional problem of power outages during ice melting. It holds significant engineering value and promotional significance for ensuring the safe and stable operation of large power grids and improving the reliability of power supply under extreme weather conditions.

XJ Electric will continue to focus on breakthroughs in core power technologies, accelerate the R&D and engineering application iteration of advanced equipment, and continuously enhance its independent innovation capabilities and core competitiveness, providing solid technical support for the construction of China's new power system, energy security assurance, and the high-quality development of the power industry.
