Inner Mongolia's New Energy Settlement Electricity Exceeds 500 Billion kWh
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 9, the cumulative settled electricity volume of new energy transactions in the Inner Mongolia power multilateral trading market exceeded 500 billion kWh, reaching 509.58 billion kWh, ranking first among provincial-level markets nationwide. Since the market opened in 2010, Inner Mongolia's power market reform has continued to advance. Inner Mongolia Power Group serves the national "dual carbon" goals and the overall energy security situation, supports the region's green energy transition, and promotes efficient utilization of new energy by accelerating grid infrastructure construction and upgrading, scientifically adjusting power grid operation modes, optimizing power market operations, and proactively serving new-type energy storage grid connection.
During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, Inner Mongolia Power Group built a strong power grid with a "four horizontal and six vertical" 500 kV backbone and 220 kV radiation. Since the beginning of this year, landmark and supporting major power grid projects such as the Houhe Second Line have been continuously advanced, adding 2.07 million kW of new accommodation capacity for Bayannur, Ordos, and other regions. All ultra-high voltage and supporting projects for the sandy and desert large bases are being accelerated. The Inner Mongolia Power Group construction and management section of the Dalad~Mengxi 1,000 kV AC transmission and transformation project has officially started, laying a solid energy foundation for large-scale, high-proportion new energy transmission. As of now, Inner Mongolia's grid-connected new energy installed capacity has exceeded 100 million kW, accounting for 57.7% of the region's total installed capacity. Power generation has fully entered the market, achieving "grid connection upon completion and trading upon commissioning."
With new energy installed capacity accounting for nearly 60%, output varies with weather, increasing pressure on power grid operation and regulation. In the first half of this year, the total power generation of Inner Mongolia's power grid was 216.76 billion kWh, and the penetration rate of new energy power generation reached historic highs at all time scales, with daily power generation accounting for 60.1% and monthly power generation accounting for 43%. On May 9, the instantaneous output of new energy accounted for 85.3% of the grid's total power generation. Inner Mongolia Power Group strengthened the construction of grid regulation capacity, improved power forecast accuracy, unit start-stop regulation efficiency, and grid peak-shaving capacity, and formed a "reservoir" with 10-million-kW-level independent energy storage installed capacity, ensuring high-level new energy consumption and safe and stable operation of the power grid.
Inner Mongolia's new energy market trading started in 2015, going through wind-thermal bundling, spot market pilots, and full-system operation. In June this year, Inner Mongolia became the first provincial-level trading institution in the country to simultaneously possess green power and green certificate trading organization qualifications. Sixteen years of reform have built a power multilateral trading market system with unique national characteristics. From January to August this year, Inner Mongolia's green power trading reached 66.26 billion kWh, firmly ranking first among provincial-level markets nationwide; cross-provincial green power transmission reached 3.710 billion kWh, a year-on-year increase of 428%, delivered to 13 provinces and cities nationwide; inter-provincial spot electricity sales reached 558 million kWh, 19 times that of the same period last year. The proportion of green power consumption in the computing power industry has exceeded 80%. The environmentally friendly attributes of green power flow with electricity, promoting green and low-carbon transformation and upgrading across industries.
At present, Inner Mongolia's power grid framework is still being densified, the power market continues to evolve, and new scenarios such as energy storage, virtual power plants, computing-power coordination, and zero-carbon parks are being advanced. The Inner Mongolia power multilateral trading market system, market ecosystem, and new-type power system construction continue to advance to adapt to high-proportion new energy and provide a replicable Mengdian solution for national power market-oriented reform.
