Power Integrations Launches Two 800V GaN Auxiliary Power Reference Designs for AI Data Centers

These new products are specifically optimized for NVIDIA's Kyber liquid-cooled blade server chassis platform, aiming to meet the growing demand for efficient and compact auxiliary power systems in high-density AI infrastructure.

The company has released two reference design variants: a 15W single-output flyback power supply measuring just 30mm x 30mm with a height of 7mm, and a 35W isolated multi-output design measuring 80mm x 60mm with a height of 8mm. According to Power Integrations, the compact form factor can save approximately 30% of board area on the power distribution board (PDB), which is typically occupied by auxiliary power circuits, while also reducing the bill of materials (BOM) count by about 30%.

In AI servers, auxiliary power supplies play a critical role, primarily tasked with providing power for control and monitoring functions involving microcontrollers, gate drivers, operational amplifiers, and other management electronics. These functions are essential for maintaining system reliability, safety, and power management in high-voltage server environments.

Both reference designs are based on the company's InnoMux-2 IC, which integrates 1700V-rated PowiGaN gallium nitride technology into a single-device architecture. The solution supports nominal input voltages up to 1000 VDC in flyback converter configurations, making it suitable for emerging 800 VDC data center power architectures.

The development team stated that these designs achieve at least 88% efficiency under various operating conditions, with the InnoMux-2 platform reaching up to 90% efficiency in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM). The higher level of integration also reduces component count, simplifies system design, and enhances long-term reliability.

The released reference designs include DER-1110 (a 35W multi-output auxiliary PSU based on the IMX2353F device) and DER-1114 (a 15W single-output version using the same controller). Both designs target auxiliary power applications in high-voltage AI data centers, with related technical documentation available for download on the company's website. As power demands for AI servers continue to grow, such compact auxiliary power solutions are becoming increasingly important for maximizing rack-level power density and optimizing space utilization in next-generation 800 VDC data center infrastructure.
