BYD of China Advances Expansion of Second-Generation Blade Battery Production, Sufficient Orders for Flash-Charge Models

Currently, order demand for models equipped with flash-charging technology is sufficient, and the company will continue to release related battery production capacity. BYD previously disclosed that in the second half of 2026, the monthly production capacity of the second-generation Blade Battery will gradually ramp up. This round of production line adjustments corresponds to the batch delivery demand for the new-generation vehicle power battery and flash-charge models released in March.

The second-generation Blade Battery was officially released on March 5, 2026. According to figures published by BYD, the new-generation product further increases energy density on the basis of the first-generation Blade Battery, with volumetric energy density increased by more than 5%, and the maximum pure electric range of equipped models reaching 1,036 kilometers. The battery has also been redesigned for high-rate charging. When paired with FLASH flash-charging technology, it takes about 5 minutes to charge from 10% to 70%, and about 9 minutes from 10% to 97%; in a -30°C environment, it takes about 12 minutes to charge from 20% to 97%.

The new battery also corresponds to a higher-power vehicle charging system. BYD's supporting flash-charging pile has a maximum single-gun output power of 1,500 kW, and a super rapid-discharge energy storage system is configured on the charging station side. Through coordinated operation of energy storage units and charging equipment, it provides power support for high-power flash charging. According to BYD's public plan, the system both performs the function of electrical energy buffering and can amplify power when vehicles are charging.

The expansion of second-generation Blade Battery production has now formed a direct correspondence with the launch pace of flash-charge models. Since 2026, BYD has continued to expand its lineup of models equipped with the new-generation battery and flash-charging technology. As a result, the battery manufacturing side needs to simultaneously complete the renovation of existing production lines, the introduction of new products, and monthly capacity ramp-up. This latest September statement further moves the previous "increase production capacity" plan into the stage of production line renovation and expansion.

The pace of charging infrastructure construction has also been noticeably faster than in the first half of this year. When BYD released its "Flash Charging China" strategy in March, it proposed building 20,000 flash-charging stations nationwide by the end of 2026; as of August 28, the 10,000th flash-charging station had been completed in Longhua, Shenzhen, an increase of nearly 3,000 from 7,018 at the end of June. At present, 10,000 flash-charging stations have covered 332 cities, with flash-charging station coverage achieved in first- and second-tier cities as well as third- and fourth-tier cities.

The production line expansion of the second-generation Blade Battery and the construction of the flash-charging network are two different engineering links within the same product delivery system: the former is responsible for the manufacturing and supply of vehicle-side power batteries, while the latter is responsible for the construction of high-power replenishment infrastructure. As monthly battery production capacity continues to ramp up and flash-charging stations advance from the current 10,000 toward the year-end target of 20,000, BYD's implementation focus in the second half of 2026 has shifted from the technology release in March to mass manufacturing of power batteries, vehicle delivery, and expansion of the flash-charging network.
