en.Wedoany.com Reported - Smart Mold will launch its AI-driven software solution, Aria, at the PLAST 2026 exhibition in Milan on June 10. The product is designed to help injection molding companies manage process adjustments, improving efficiency and repeatability. Smart Mold, a spin-off from the University of Padova and part of the Sirmax Group, specializes in optimizing plastic injection molding processes.
According to the company, Aria was developed to address a common industry challenge: adjustments required when production conditions change, which typically rely on the personal experience of operators. Changing conditions include mold changes, machine downtime, material changes, or the appearance of defects.
Ineffective adjustments can lead to scrap, machine non-productive time, and energy waste. Aria helps operators restore the process to an optimal state through guided recommendations based on defect analysis. The software measures part quality, identifies defects, and recommends the most effective corrective actions to achieve the required quality faster.
Aria uses computer vision and AI algorithms to continuously measure the severity of defects, thereby determining whether the process is improving, worsening, or requires targeted adjustments. It also transforms experience gained during mold testing and fine-tuning into a shared knowledge base, accessible to less experienced operators at any time.
Giovanni Lucchetta, founder and CEO of Smart Mold, stated: "In an industrial context where specialized skills are increasingly difficult to obtain, Aria helps companies standardize processes, reduce reliance on individual expertise, and make quality management more accessible. The goal is to bring process intelligence directly to the injection molding machine, making molding more efficient, stable, and repeatable."
Test data shows that after using Aria, the average number of trials required to achieve quality decreased from 25 to 3, and the number of scrap parts decreased from 128 to 8. This represents an 88% reduction in setup trials and a 94% reduction in scrap during process restarts, helping to restore quality faster and improve production continuity.
Aria can be integrated with any injection molding machine. When no digital interface is available, the system can retrieve data directly from the machine's display. The installation includes a vision system consisting of an industrial camera, controlled lighting, and a local processing unit, requiring no modifications to the injection molding machine.
The Sirmax Group also showcased its portfolio of six categories of composite materials at the PLAST exhibition, developed through a co-design process with customers.
