en.Wedoany.com Reported - The first phase of the El-Gharably Industrial Complex in New Borg El-Arab City, Alexandria, Egypt, has commenced operations. The complex is positioned as a comprehensive engineering and steel structure production base, aiming to expand industrial output and enhance export capacity. Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly inaugurated the project and stated that the second phase should be accelerated, introducing international partners to support local manufacturing and boost strategic industrial capacity.
Covering an area of 315,000 square meters, the complex has a designed annual production capacity exceeding 100,000 tons and currently employs approximately 3,000 workers. The company expects the total workforce to increase to 5,000 as subsequent facilities come online. The core of the first phase is a steel structure factory covering 100,000 square meters, with an annual capacity also exceeding 100,000 tons. This factory undertakes supply tasks for major domestic infrastructure projects and is built to international quality, safety, and environmental standards, enabling it to supply overseas markets.
The complex also houses Egypt's largest maintenance and engine overhaul workshop, covering 50,000 square meters, as well as an industrial and medical gas plant with a daily production capacity of 550 cylinders. Chairman and CEO Moataz El-Gharably revealed that the company is considering a joint venture with Poland's Tabor company to build a railway freight car factory, with an investment ranging between €25 million and €40 million. The factory plans to produce up to 300 freight cars annually, with 40% of planned products for export, and is expected to create 500 jobs.
The company is also advancing agricultural machinery manufacturing cooperation with Poland's Metal-Technik company, targeting an annual output of 1,000 tractors, with half of the proposed production for export. Additionally, plans are underway to build a spiral welded pipe factory in partnership with Turkey's Erciyas company, with an annual capacity of 50,000 tons, approximately half of which will be exported. Regarding the third phase, the plan is to collaborate with Sweden's Trelleborg company to construct a marine fender manufacturing facility, targeting both domestic and international port markets.
Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem noted at the opening ceremony that the steel industry remains the foundation of Egypt's industrial strategy, playing a key role in advancing the localization of heavy industry, strengthening manufacturing capabilities, and enhancing the country's competitiveness in the international market. This project is an important part of Egypt's overall plan to expand industrial scale, attract foreign investment cooperation, and increase exports of engineering, transportation, and industrial manufactured goods.
