Siemens Participates in the Digitalization of the U.S. Battery-NY Battery Pilot Plant

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 9, Siemens announced a collaboration with Battery-NY to establish an automation and digital manufacturing architecture for the flexible battery development and pilot manufacturing facility under construction in upstate New York. Siemens will participate in the design of the facility's IT/OT architecture, provide the industrial data foundation, and develop a digital twin simulation roadmap; Battery-NY will adopt the Siemens Battery Automation Framework as the standardized framework for battery manufacturing automation.

The pilot plant is led by Binghamton University and is aimed at transitioning battery materials, cell design, and manufacturing processes from laboratory research and development to the pilot manufacturing stage. According to information from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, Binghamton University previously led the New Energy New York initiative, which received $113 million in federal funding. The construction content includes a battery pilot manufacturing facility, supply chain expansion, technological innovation, and workforce development; the New Energy New York Battery Tech Hub, where Battery-NY is located, focuses on covering the entire battery development and manufacturing industry chain.

The manufacturing processes at the plant will cover mixing, coating, calendering, slitting, cell assembly, formation, and cycling testing. Production equipment provided by different equipment manufacturers will be integrated into the production system through unified automation, equipment interfaces, and data principles, forming a unified architecture among equipment control, manufacturing data, and production software. The system will also be equipped with production and quality data visualization, real-time dashboards, product traceability, and material genealogy management functions.

Siemens will also participate in subsequent technology validation through its Foundational Technologies team in Princeton, New Jersey, evaluating the actual production value of manufacturing simulation, digital twins, software-defined automation, and artificial intelligence applications. Battery-NY's facility will allow research institutions, equipment suppliers, and battery manufacturing companies to validate battery materials, production processes, and digital workflows in an industrial-grade equipment environment.
