en.Wedoany.com Reported - FANUC announced a strategic partnership with Google to enhance its Physical AI robot systems, aiming to accelerate automation by advancing open platforms and physical AI capabilities. As part of the collaboration, FANUC has developed an industrial robot Physical AI system that integrates the latest innovations from Google Cloud, including Gemini Enterprise.

FANUC partners with Google to accelerate Physical AI

Physical AI is the fusion of cognitive intelligence with physical actions, encompassing robots capable of sensing their environment through sensors, making autonomous decisions, and executing tasks. FANUC robots support ROS (the industry-standard open platform for robot control), to which Google is a significant contributor and maintainer through its Intrinsic robotics AI group. The FANUC product portfolio also offers broad compatibility with various technologies, including the Python programming language for AI development, high-speed communication interfaces for external robot control, and interfaces for operation from PLCs.

Since the launch of the FANUC Physical AI system at the International Robot Exhibition last December, customer interest has continued to grow rapidly, with over 1,000 FANUC robots shipped for Physical AI-related applications. At the New Product Open House Show in May, the company demonstrated a next-generation Physical AI robot system that utilizes generative AI Gemini, capable of understanding human instructions, recognizing objects, and autonomously operating FANUC robots to perform assigned tasks. This AI-driven agent system for industrial robots enables both collaborative and non-collaborative robots to work together as a single unit based on simple natural language instructions.

Additionally, FANUC provides comprehensive support for robot control compatible with Flowstate, the development environment from Intrinsic. Flowstate software is interoperable with ROS and allows for rapid development of highly adaptive AI solutions using FANUC's open platform technology. FANUC is also participating in Google DeepMind's Gemini Robotics Trusted Tester Program to advance research on AI-based foundational robot models.
