en.Wedoany.com Reported - South Korean company Tillon (CEO Choi Baek-joon) recently announced that its 5MW (5,000kW) data center power supply plan at its headquarters in Magok, Seoul, has passed the preliminary review by the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), and plans to proceed with the conversion and construction of an AI edge data center.

Tillon received the preliminary review results from KEPCO on the 12th of this month. KEPCO confirmed that power can be supplied through load conversion of the Magok substation line, with the expected power reception date in May 2027.

In Seoul and the capital region, an increasing number of companies are promoting edge data centers. Compared to large IDCs, edge data centers require less power and are suitable for operation in small-scale facilities, offering the advantage of being built in urban areas. Additionally, edge data centers help reduce administrative licensing burdens and shorten development cycles. Against the backdrop of surging GPU demand from enterprises due to the proliferation of generative AI and severe challenges in data center power supply, edge data centers are gaining more attention.

Tillon has previously received a letter of commitment for investment in data center business cooperation from one of South Korea's largest telecom companies. It is currently in negotiations with domestic and international investors for large-scale investments to introduce high-performance GPUs and data center equipment. Tillon estimates that once the edge data center infrastructure is completed, it can generate approximately 9 billion KRW in annual rental revenue. If the additional power supply, including that at Magok, is finalized, the annual rental revenue is expected to more than double the current forecast.

Tillon's Magok headquarters building is specifically constructed to operate high-performance data center infrastructure. To support the weight of heavy equipment and servers, the building features a high-strength design load of 1.6 tons per square meter.

Tillon stated that following the 140MW project in Jeju, the power supply has now been secured in Seoul, marking the completion phase of the company's "dual-track AI cluster business expansion" into global infrastructure construction. Additionally, Tillon recently signed an industry-academia cooperation agreement with Yonam Institute of Technology to accelerate expansion into the university market, and demonstrated GPU sharing technology during visits by multiple university presidents to its headquarters.
