en.Wedoany.com Reported - India's state-owned telecom company BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) has launched a 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) service that does not require a physical SIM card, differentiating its technical approach from Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel. The service achieves direct-to-device (D2D) connectivity through device-level identification and cloud service provisioning, with the customer premises equipment (CPE) automatically completing network authentication upon power-on. BSNL has named it Q-5G, built on India's indigenous technology stack, with a 100 Mbps plan starting at Rs 999 per month.

BSNL's 5G FWA service provides only high-speed data access, without voice or roaming capabilities. In contrast, both Jio AirFiber and Airtel Xstream AirFiber require a physical 5G SIM card to be inserted into the CPE for operation. BSNL's technology stack eliminates the steps of SIM card manufacturing, transportation, insertion, and activation by replacing the traditional cellular network authentication process. The service has been launched in select Indian cities, with plans to expand to Bengaluru, Pune, Chandigarh, Gwalior, Puducherry, and Visakhapatnam by September 2025. In addition to the 100 Mbps entry-level plan, BSNL also offers a 300 Mbps plan priced at Rs 1,499 per month.
BSNL stated that this 5G FWA service is fully based on its 5G Standalone (SA) network. For enterprise users, BSNL indicated that the same 5G SA core will support network slicing and service level agreement (SLA)-guaranteed links, targeting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and smart manufacturing clusters.
