en.Wedoany.com Reported - Spain's IMPLICIT project aims to transform single-use auxiliary materials generated during composite manufacturing into high-value reusable resources through a multi-modal recycling strategy, aligning with European circular economy goals. Led by Solteco, with Aimplas as the technical lead, the project brings together eight entities, including Birziplastik, Faperin, Industrias Alegre, Eurecat, Tecnalia, and Leartiker. The Spanish Composite Materials Association (AEMAC) and Airbus serve as strategic partners, providing real waste materials from aerospace manufacturing.

The project focuses on treating waste materials such as vacuum bags, release films, and absorbent fabrics—single-use auxiliary materials. Partners will combine mechanical (shredding, separation, and extrusion), physical (selective dissolution), and chemical (e.g., solvolysis) recycling technologies to obtain high-purity recycled materials from thermoplastic polymers such as PA, PET, PE, and PP. These materials will be applied in high-value sectors including automotive components, technical textiles, and urban furniture.
Addressing key challenges such as waste heterogeneity and resin contamination, the project will improve the mechanical properties of recycled materials through advanced decontamination, compounding, and additive formulation processes. Pau Manclús, a chemical recycling researcher at Aimplas, stated that the IMPLICIT project addresses the recycling of auxiliary materials historically excluded from valorization strategies, aiming to demonstrate that transforming complex waste into useful resources is feasible.
The project will be validated through practical industrial demonstrations, converting recycled materials into new products such as technical automotive components, urban furniture profiles, and technical textile multifilaments. Additionally, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Life Cycle Cost (LCC) analyses will be used to evaluate the environmental, economic, and functional impacts of the solutions. The IMPLICIT project (Reference No. CPP2023-010867) is funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities through the Centre for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), as part of the 2024 Public-Private Partnership Project Program.
