en.Wedoany.com Reported - Equinix has launched its sixth International Business Exchange (IBX) data center, HK6, in Hong Kong's Tsuen Wan district.

The facility's initial phase involves an investment of $124 million, with the first phase capable of accommodating up to 1,000 racks. Upon full completion, it will house 3,550 racks, with a total gross floor area of 41,600 square feet (3,865 square meters). Located at 18 Sha Tsui Road, the 18-story HK6 is within 2 kilometers of HK1, HK2, and HK3. Equinix first announced plans for the facility in 2024.
Joanne Hon, Managing Director of Equinix Hong Kong, stated that Equinix has been a trusted partner in Hong Kong for the past 25 years, supporting every major transformation in the city's digital evolution, from the rise of interconnection to cloud, hybrid architectures, and artificial intelligence. As the largest single investment in Hong Kong over the past decade, HK6 demonstrates the company's long-term commitment to the market and confidence in its development trajectory.
The facility is equipped with liquid cooling technology to handle high-density workloads and includes an open testing environment where enterprises and startups can build, test, validate, and scale AI applications across neutral, efficient hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
Equinix entered Asia in 2002, entering the market through the acquisitions of i-STT and Pihana Pacific, the latter of which opened a data center in Hong Kong in 2001. HK2 was launched around 2011. According to the latest financial report, all six of Equinix's facilities in Hong Kong are leased, with HK2, 3, 4, and 5 listed as stable operations.
Last year, Equinix partnered with Schneider Electric to upgrade HK1, adding liquid cooling capabilities.
