According to the Korea Procurement Service's National Marketplace (나라장터) on the 23rd, the corporation plans to use this project to proactively respond to the real-time electricity market reform expected to be implemented after 2027. The current system, which is primarily day-ahead market-oriented, is difficult to adapt to the real-time market mechanism. Additionally, the system, which has been in operation for 15 years, is increasingly aging, leading to higher reliance on human resources. Therefore, it is necessary to apply the latest technologies such as AI and big data to achieve systematic and consistent operation of heating and power generation facilities.
The total project investment is 9.9177 billion won, with a construction period of 18 months after commencement. The scope of work includes upgrading five existing systems: heat demand forecasting, production planning, electricity trading, real-time monitoring, and the energy information platform, as well as building a new heat trading platform.
The heat demand forecasting system will replace the existing simple forecasting model and the manual correction method based on operator experience. By discovering and learning optimal AI models, it will improve forecasting accuracy and prevent quality deviations among operators. An MLOps system for the systematic operation and management of AI models will also be established. The production planning system will also be improved: the optimization engine, which has degraded in performance and relies on manual operation, will be redeveloped, and the automation of production plan formulation will be realized to enhance speed and accuracy.
The electricity trading system will add bid automation functions linked to production plans and functions to cope with the real-time electricity market. Previously, there was a lack of linkage between systems, requiring manual input of bids; automation will shorten input time and reduce the risk of errors. For the real-time monitoring system, an intelligent alarm program applying AI algorithms will be developed, and the previously fragmented management system will be unified to improve reliability and convenience.
The energy information platform will standardize and automate cost management analysis for each branch and heat source, improving work efficiency, and will apply the latest UI/UX to enhance convenience. The new heat trading platform built in this project will focus on streamlining the heat trading business process and establishing a standardized business foundation.
Korea District Heating Corp. hopes that through this project, it can organically connect the previously fragmented integrated operation business processes that relied on manual operation, improve forecasting accuracy and work efficiency, and thereby lay the foundation for responding to changes in the energy market environment, such as the real-time electricity market reform.
