en.Wedoany.com Reported - UK construction company GRAHAM has held a topping-out ceremony for Oasis Academy Temple Quarter in Bristol, a brand-new modern secondary school currently under construction.

The ceremony took place on June 17 at the Silverthorne Lane site. Richard James, Principal of Oasis Academy Temple Quarter, along with six students and three representatives from the Department for Education, signed engraved commemorative plaques. All ten plaques were embedded in concrete foundations, leaving a permanent record within the new building.

Led by the UK Department for Education, the project will deliver a mainstream secondary school at the heart of the Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone, serving communities in east and central Bristol. Designed to accommodate 1,600 students, the scheme includes a modern main teaching block and the renovation of a smaller historic building to serve as a new sports hall.

Construction began in September 2025, with the permanent school building scheduled to open in September 2027. Once completed, the school will provide specialist teaching spaces and facilities to support student wellbeing, creating an inspiring learning environment.

The academy is part of the Bristol Temple Quarter masterplan, one of the UK's largest regeneration projects, which is bringing new homes, businesses, research facilities, and student accommodation to the surrounding area.

Peter Reavey, Regional Director at GRAHAM, said: "The topping-out is a proud moment for everyone involved, and it was fantastic to bring stakeholders together to celebrate the progress made so far. Since breaking ground last year, our team has worked tirelessly to deliver a high-quality building that fosters learning and development while prioritising wellbeing and safety. When the academy opens in 2027, it will empower generations of young people in Bristol with access to an outstanding learning environment, and we are deeply proud to be part of it."

Speaking at the ceremony, Richard James, Principal of Oasis Academy Temple Quarter, reflected on the significance of the milestone: "In the Oasis 2030 vision, we talk about reimagining ceilings—not as limits, but as floors for future generations to stand on. So, while today is a topping-out ceremony, it feels more like a beginning than an end. Completing this phase of construction brings us one step closer to a modern academy that will serve as a bridge between our community and the wider city. Standing on the fourth floor, it's impossible not to be inspired by the view of Bristol—from the new university campus to the growing innovation in Temple Quarter. Our next task is to turn these views into real opportunities: partnerships, experiences, and pathways that connect our students, families, and community to the developments on their doorstep. This building represents possibility, and we are excited about everything it will unlock for generations to come."
