en.Wedoany.com Reported - OMV Petrom has delivered the fourth and final module of the 20 MW electrolyzer to the Petrobrazi refinery, marking the full arrival of all modules for this green hydrogen project. The company is simultaneously advancing two green hydrogen projects at the site: a completed 20 MW project and another 35 MW project still under execution, bringing the total installed capacity to 55 MW.

The 20 MW electrolyzer is expected to produce approximately 3,000 tons of green hydrogen annually through a water electrolysis process powered by renewable energy. The produced hydrogen will be used in the refining process, particularly to supply the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) production units currently under construction.
The equipment for the 20 MW unit was supplied by Germany's Neuman & Esser. The construction, logistics, component manufacturing, and module assembly work required at the Petrobrazi site were carried out by Kraftanlagen Romania in collaboration with local suppliers.
The project received approximately €21 million in non-repayable funding through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). The broader SAF/HVO project has a total investment of €750 million, with €560 million allocated for the SAF/HVO unit and €190 million for the two green hydrogen facilities. The new SAF/HVO unit has an annual production capacity of 250,000 tons; the two hydrogen projects together are expected to produce approximately 8,000 tons per year to support sustainable fuel production. The sustainable fuel can reduce lifecycle carbon dioxide emissions by at least 65% and is compatible with existing infrastructure.
