en.Wedoany.com Reported - At the 2026 OpenAtom Open-Source Ecosystem Conference held on June 25, Loongson Technology Corporation Limited (referred to as Loongson) jointly launched the OpenAtom LoongArch Community with the OpenAtom Foundation. This marks the first comprehensive open-source community initiated in China in the field of proprietary instruction set architecture, signaling that China's chip root technology ecosystem construction has entered a phase of accelerated development.

The community plans to establish three major open-source special projects: IP cores, binary translation, and basic operating systems, covering the entire chain from chip design to terminal applications. Subsequently, the community will open its hardware and software open-source assets to the entire industry, promoting the deployment of the LoongArch in diverse scenarios such as desktops, servers, embedded systems, and cloud computing. It will also collaborate with domestic and international open-source ecosystem partners to build a complete, independent, open, high-performance, and highly compatible LoongArch hardware and software industry ecosystem.

Hu Weiwu, Chairman of Loongson, stated in his keynote speech that after 25 years of accumulation, Loongson CPU performance has reached the level of mainstream market products and is currently the only domestic CPU available for external technology licensing. The company is leveraging the OpenAtom Foundation to build the LoongArch ecosystem, having already donated the Loongson basic operating system, binary translation system, and CPU IP cores. In the future, a dedicated team will be established to provide chip design services, lowering the entry barrier for customers through proprietary IP.

Hu Weiwu pointed out that the community provides a bridge for Loongson to communicate with the government and the market, helping to break the current situation of poor performance and weak ecosystem of domestic CPUs. He cited an example where Loongson's compatibility with peripherals such as printers has surpassed some foreign platforms, proving that an independent system can create a user-friendly and cost-effective ecosystem.

To better support developers in the LoongArch community, Hu Weiwu revealed that Loongson will invest millions of yuan annually, providing hardware boards and organizing developer conferences to encourage the growth of the software ecosystem. He believes that with continuous innovation in microarchitecture and instruction set systems, Loongson is transitioning from a "follower" to a "leader" in product performance. Through instruction set innovation, it can eliminate ecosystem barriers and ultimately build a third independent ecosystem alongside x86 and ARM.

It is reported that the LoongArch has received the exclusive instruction set architecture identifier number 258 from the GNU organization, becoming a top-level instruction set system in the open-source world alongside x86 and ARM. Loongson has contributed over one million lines of source code to more than 700 international open-source communities, and its related products have achieved large-scale deployment in key sectors such as e-government, finance, and energy.

Zhang Ge, Vice President of Loongson, stated in a forum speech that the performance of the company's new-generation CPU "Three Musketeers" has reached international mainstream levels. In the future, the company will rely on open-source efforts to build LoongArch basic software, deeply integrate into the international open-source ecosystem, comprehensively empower industries and partners, and construct a high-autonomy, high-growth, and sustainable information technology application innovation industry ecosystem.
