en.Wedoany.com Reported - Alfa Laval has announced a contract with Acelen to supply hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) pretreatment technology for a large-scale renewable fuel biorefinery in Brazil, valued at SEK 1.1 billion (EUR 102 million). This agreement represents the largest order in Alfa Laval's history and will be executed in phases, with the project expected to be completed by 2029.

Under the contract, the Swedish engineering company will deliver a complete HVO pretreatment system, including heat exchangers, separators, and other engineering components, covering processes such as feedstock clarification, degumming, absorption, and wastewater treatment. The technology is capable of processing a variety of renewable feedstocks, including soybean oil, waste cooking oil, and the Brazilian native oilseed crop macaúba.

The Acelen plant is designed with a production capacity exceeding 17,230 barrels per day, primarily utilizing the HVO process to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The project aims to strengthen Brazil's position in the renewable fuel sector while advancing the decarbonization of hard-to-abate industries such as aviation and heavy transport.

Alfa Laval stated that the contract reflects a growing trend in biofuel investments, as governments and industries actively seek alternatives to fossil fuels. The company noted that its equipment is already deployed in hundreds of biofuel facilities worldwide, enhancing production efficiency and reducing energy consumption.

The biorefinery represents a total investment of approximately SEK 30 billion (EUR 2.7 billion) and is being developed by Acelen Renewables, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi's Mubadala Capital. The project is part of Brazil's strategy to expand its leadership in biofuels, leveraging decades of policy support and abundant agricultural feedstock resources to build domestic low-carbon fuel production capacity.
