en.Wedoany.com Reported - Porsche plans to transfer production of the Cayenne model to its Leipzig plant in Saxony, Germany, to ensure long-term utilization of the facility. If implemented, this plan would mark the end of the Cayenne's relatively short production cycle in Slovakia—Porsche only began producing the Cayenne at Volkswagen Group's multi-brand plant in Bratislava in early 2026. Since the beginning of February, all Cayenne variants—including internal combustion engine, hybrid, and fully electric versions—have been manufactured on a flexible assembly line at the Slovakian plant.

However, the plan to move Cayenne production to Leipzig depends on employees accepting lower labor costs. Reports indicate that wage levels in Slovakia are significantly lower than those at Porsche's German plants. When asked about the plan, Porsche declined to comment, but company representatives and central union representatives confirmed that discussions are currently underway.

Porsche faces increasing market pressure. After a weak performance in 2025, the sports car manufacturer delivered only 60,991 vehicles globally in the first quarter of 2026, a 15% year-on-year decline, with deliveries in China dropping 21%. Porsche CEO Michael Mates is currently focused on improving capacity utilization at the company's plants in Zuffenhausen and Leipzig. Porsche plans to reduce the number of model derivatives, restructure its research and development operations, and more fully leverage synergies within the Volkswagen Group.
