en.Wedoany.com Reported - BAM has signed an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) agreement with SSEN Transmission to provide design and construction support for the site in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire.

The EGL3 project, jointly developed by SSEN Transmission and National Grid Electricity Transmission, is the largest transmission project ever undertaken in the UK. This 2 GW, 525 kV high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line will run approximately 680 km between Peterhead and Norfolk via onshore and submarine cables. BAM will assist in planning the converter station and related civil works before the main contract is awarded in 2027. The next work package will cover detailed design and construction of buildings, access roads, drainage systems, and other infrastructure required prior to HVDC equipment installation.

Adrian Collins, Director of BAM UK and Ireland, stated that the company is very pleased to continue participating in the Eastern Green Link project, helping to transport renewable energy from Scotland to England. The ECI agreement marks an important step in this process and will deliver critical infrastructure for the Peterhead converter station. Last year, BAM collaborated with Hitachi Energy and was appointed to handle civil works for Eastern Green Link 2.

The proposed project has received outline planning permission for the converter station site at Netherton Hub in Scotland. If approved, construction will begin in 2028, and the line is expected to be energized by 2033.
